Using Your Gifts to Help Others

In 1 Peter 4:10, Peter calls us to embody Christ-like service: “Each of you should use whatever gifts you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” Imagine the weight and beauty of that statement. God has entrusted you with a piece of His grace, embedded in the unique talents and capabilities He’s given you— not to be hidden or hoarded but to be poured out in love and service to others. Just as Christ washed His disciples feet in humble, selfless love (John 13:1-12), we too are called to step into the lives of others with our gifts, reflecting the heart of God. Though blessed with miraculous gifts, the early Christians were reminded that these were meant for building each other up, to personal glory. Today, even without miraculous abilities, we are still stewards of the talents, passions, and capabilities God has placed in our hands, and the call to use them remains just as urgent.

Think about the world as a giant puzzle. Every person is a uniquely shaped piece; without your contribution, the picture remains incomplete. Your gift—whether it’s teaching, creativity, compassion, leadership, or craftsmanship—plays a vital role in the lives of others. Take Bezalel in Exodus 31:1-11, for example. God blessed him with the skill to craft the Tabernacle, bringing excellence and beauty to a place of worship. Or consider a modern-day teacher who stays late to help struggling students, using their gift of teaching not just to educate but to encourage and uplift. Even the smallest acts of service, like baking a meal for a sick neighbor or mentoring a child, can ripple through eternity when done with love and purpose. These moments might seem small to you, but they are monumental in the eyes of God. Nothing is insignificant when offered in service to Him.

In the church, every person has a role, and every role matters deeply. Ephesians 4:11-12 reminds us that Christ gave each of us gifts for the “perfecting of the saints” and “building up the body of Christ.” The purpose is clear: the growth and maturity of His people. Whether you are a natural encourager, a servant who finds joy in quiet tasks like cleaning or preparing the Lord’s Supper, or someone gifted in teaching, preaching, or singing, your role is vital. No contribution is too small when it is done for the Lord. Imagine what the church and the world could look like if everyone used their God-given abilities to serve with passion and purpose. Ask yourself: What can I contribute? Find a way to get involved today, no matter how small it may seem. God doesn’t call us to be perfect—He calls us to be faithful. When we use our gifts to serve Him and others, we reflect the love of Christ, glorify God, and build a legacy far beyond our own lives. Let today be the day you step into the purpose God has designed for you.
